The excursions that were available to us here sounded so wonderful and I would have liked to do the zip line thing but they said if you have a mobility problem it was not wise. I will do this one day because it is on my bucket list....So instead we took what appeared to be the better excursion for people who had mobility problems and as I still did okay, it was rather exhausting. Lots of walking and hills and it was pretty warm too, but walking through the jungle with parrots in the wild and monkeys free and jumping through the trees was outstanding.
I think crossing that wooden Pirate's bridge was so much fun and while other people found it a little challenging, it really seemed pretty easy for me because I have a balance problem and that's the wiggling I'm used to. I guess you learn to deal with what you have and how you handle it. Fun, fun.
There was an instance when the tour guide (who was a very young man) was the last one going across and wanted to have a little fun by shaking the bridge a little too much and he was not thinking too adult like because there was a woman in front of him who was in her late 60's and it frightened her a little. She did tell him about it after she crossed, but the damage had already been done and although he did apologize to her, it shook her up a bit. I don't blame her, she didn't want to cross that shaky bridge anyway but she grinned and went on just to apeeze her friends. "You go girl" So maybe next time this young man will think before he does the playful thing again, because he is representing the tours in this situation.
Anyway, we went on to enjoy the rest of the jungle and all the amazing plant life along with the monkeys, birds and wonderful weather! We went through caves and passed waterfalls and just enjoyed the day and then we were brought back to the beach where we were to meet up with the next leg of the excursion and that was the part of the Catamaran and snorkeling.
Yes, I did look silly but who cares? I wasn't expecting to get into the water because I don't swim and I have Asthma and you can't snorkel too well if you do, or maybe you can, but it's much harder for them to teach you.
I just know that this one young man who was the captain of the Catamaran offered to personally take me into the water and stay with me the entire time just so that I could see the beautiful coral reefs and the fish that were so beautiful.
Now he didn't have to do this, but I think he saw me walking around the Catamaran with my cane and taking pictures of the water because it was so beautiful and he just had to offer. What a very nice young man! He told me he would take good care of me to my friends who were very concerned and he reassured them. He even offered the mask so that I could see below the waterline and without the snorkel part. It worked great and I was so thankful to this wonderful young man! The Catamaran was the "Jolly Ranger" and the crew was so much fun and so helpful to all.
Wonderful, wonderful.
After the tour we headed back to our buses to take the trip back to the ship and end our wonderful day and boy, was it. The bus ride back was also pretty interesting in that we found out about all of the little things about the island from a native born young man and he talked and answered all of our questions and it was very refreshing to listen to.
There were so many excursions available for this island and it was pretty hard to choose which ones would be the best but when the day ended, I was sure that our day surpassed all others because of the kindness we had been shown and the fun we had. It will be a very long time before I ever forget that trip......
